Devlog: Progress Update - Game Modes


Welcome back to the How to Wizard devlog! This second post will be a quick development update in between build uploads.

In the final version, How to Wizard will feature 4 gameplay modes: story, new game+, challenge and sandbox. Story mode is the standard progress mode where you unlock spell modules as you encounter them. Also available from the start is sandbox mode where you can craft and cast spells to your heart's content with the modules you've unlocked. Once you've completed story mode, new game+ and challenge mode are unlocked. In new game+, all modules are unlocked from the start and is your opportunity to complete the levels in a whole new way! Challenge mode revises the levels and available modules to provide a completely remixed experience to encourage solving the puzzles in new, interesting ways.

Currently, all 15 story levels have been developed and their challenge versions are on their way. Below are some screenshots of the latter, more complex levels.
Level 10

A puzzle only reachable via spells.

Level 12

Activate pressure plates under an array of destructive lasers.

Level 14

A complex puzzle that demands the unique properties of certain modules.

This was a quick sneak peek into the game. In 2 weeks, we'll be uploading a new build with story mode, new game+, sandbox, and maybe a little bit of challenge mode. We'll also be attending Beer and Pixels in Sydney on the 12th of November, so if you'd like to meet us, that'll be your chance!
